Medical foods
Medical foods must comply with all relevant food legislation and are also subject to additional specific regulations which implement a European Commission Directive on dietary foods for special medical purposes.

The regulations implement in England, the European Commission Directive 99/21/EC (OJ No L91, 7.4.99) (Corrigendum to 99/21/EC (OJ L2, 5.1.00) on dietary foods for special medical purposes. Similar Regulations have in force in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
