Legislation
Slimming foods
Formula slimming foods must comply with all relevant food legislation and are also subject to additional specific regulations which implement a European Directive on foods intended for use in energy restricted diets for weight reduction.

The Foods Intended for Use in Energy Restricted Diets for Weight Reduction Regulations 1997 (SI 1997 No 2182)
www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si1997/97218201.htm
These regulations implement Commission Directive 96/8/EC of 26 February 1996 (OJ No L55 63.96) on foods intended for use in energy restricted diets for weight reduction. The regulations include specific compositional, labelling and packaging controls on certain slimming foods, as well as restrictions on the advertising of meal replacements and total diet replacements.
