Legislation
Weaning foods
Weaning foods must comply with all relevant food legislation and are also subject to additional specific regulations which implement a number of EU Directives based on advice from the European Scientific Committee for Food.

The Processed Cereal-based Foods and Baby foods for Infants and Young Children (England) Regulations 2003 (SI 2003 No 3207)
www.legislation.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2003/2003320...
These regulations revoke and replace the previous 1997 regulations and amendments, and implement EU Directives 1996/5/EC, 1998/36/EC, 1999/39/EC and 2003/13/EC on weaning foods. They specify labelling and compositional controls for all weaning foods
including compositional criteria for vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The contain provisions for pesticide residues and analytical methods and limit levels of pesticide residues in baby foods to a maximum of 1 part per billion. The use of certain pesticides is prohibited. Similar Regulations are in force in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The changes to the 1997 regulations come into force on 6 March 2005.
